On August 28, 1955 a 14-year-old African-American male was beaten to death for whistling at a white woman in Mississippi. Young Emmett Till wasn’t even from the south but had to face the brutal and harsh reality of life down there in the worst way possible.
His mother’s decision to have an open casket funeral for her son was so that the world would have to face that harsh tragedy as well. This act, along with the live news reports of the Civil Rights encounters is what makes the world react…to OUR dilemmas at least.
The recent killings of the two news reporters on live tv was utterly disgusting and heartbreaking none the less but the fact that people are urging for it not to be shown is baffling. When Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and Walter Scott were killed, the media had NO problem in constantly showing that footage. Footage of a 12-year-old BOY – A MINOR getting killed isn’t too graphic but two of there own is just too much to handle huh?
Don’t get me wrong, my heart goes out to those families and I pray for their peace but my heart belongs to my people.
When will the playing field be leveled?
